Lisbon Quarry congratulates Newark girls basketball team with $500 donation for state tournament trip
Vulcan Materials Company was proud to support the Newark High School girls basketball team in their run to the Illinois state basketball championship game. The Lisbon Quarry congratulated the Lady Norsemen by donating $500 to help cover transportation costs for the girls' trip Illinois State University.
"All of us at the Lisbon Quarry are extremely proud of the girls," said Lisbon Plant Manager, Scott Novak. "They have played their hearts out this season, what a tremendous season"
Newark reached its first-ever championship game last week, losing an overtime thriller to Flanagan, 62-60. The Lady Norseman reached the championship game by defeating Moweaqua, 49-48 in overtime.
"This donation really helped fund our trip," said Newark Girls Head Basketball Coach Dale Skelton. "We are very thankful Vulcan is so involved with our school and the community."
The Lisbon Quarry partners with Newark in the Adopt-A-School program, which offers students enriched learning opportunities through tours, regular donations and in-class activities. Last year, the quarry donated $25,000 toward the Newark High School Greenhouse project which will be used by more than 160 students in the school's agricultural program. The greenhouse will officially open with a ribbon-cutting on March 1, 2008.
