Vulcan joins Adopt-A-School partnership with Newark Community High School

March 6, 2007 - Vulcan Materials Company Lisbon Quarry recently announced an Adopt-A-School partnership with Newark Community High School of Newark Community High School District #18.

The goal of the relationship is to enhance learning by helping students connect academia with real-world requirements for achieving a successful life and career. The Adopt-A-School program is another part of Vulcan's commitment to being a good corporate citizen.

"We are proud to be supporting the students at Newark High School," said Steve Novak, General Superintendent, South Region. "As a socially responsible employer, we are committed to strengthening our relationship within our community and improving the quality of life for students, teachers and parents."

Vulcan presented Newark with a grant for $1,500 that the school will put toward class materials and resources to enhance the learning experience for the entire student body.

In the past, Vulcan has offered a variety of programs as part of its Adopt-A-School initiative. Among them: career days, mentoring programs, accelerated reading programs, school clean-ups, judging math contests, providing school supplies and computers, improving athletic scoreboards, classroom presentations, and sponsoring field trips.

More importantly, students will have an opportunity to interact with successful role models from the business world and take an interest in learning beyond the classroom.
