Vulcan joins Adopt-A-School partnership with Lisbon Grade School
April 12, 2007 - Vulcan Materials Company Lisbon Quarry proudly announced an Adopt-A-School relationship with Lisbon Grade School of Lisbon Consolidated School District #90.
The partnership aims to enhance student learning by expanding and broadening their education and providing an alternative outlet for students to explore.
In the past, Vulcan has offered a variety of programs as part of its Adopt-A-School initiative. Among them: career days, mentoring programs, accelerated reading programs, school clean-ups, judging math contests, providing school supplies and computers, improving athletic scoreboards, classroom presentations, and sponsoring field trips.
"The Adopt-A-School program unlocks a whole new world of education for the students at Lisbon Grade School," said Steve Novak, General Superintendent, South Region. "Vulcan is devoted to improving the quality of life for students, teachers and parents in our community."
Vulcan recently presented Lisbon with a grant for $1,500 that the school will put toward resources and materials for the students' science classes. The grant is the first step toward becoming full partners in education.
Given the proximity of the school to Vulcan's Lisbon Quarry, Novak hopes the students will be able to tour the facility and meet some of the employees who make it work. This opportunity would allow students to engage and interact with successful role models and take their interest in learning beyond the classroom.
Adopt-A-School Partnership Agreement

The Lisbon Grade School is an important educational institution in Lisbon Community Consolidated School District 90 and is totally committed to the educational development of the young people entrusted to it.
Vulcan Materials Company Lisbon Quarry and Lisbon Grade School join in this Adopt-A-School relationship to advance the objectives of each entity through mutual, supportive interaction. Vulcan believes that providing tours of its operation facilities, classroom presentations and lectures, and providing appropriate supplies and materials to Lisbon Grade School will significantly advance the overall education and development of the students. Lisbon Grade School believes the active support of Vulcan and its employees will provide a needed resource to the faculty and staff of Lisbon Grade School in meeting their objective in educating students, particularly in connecting academic learning with real world requirements for achieving a successful life and career.
We, as representatives of Vulcan Materials Company Lisbon Quarry, and Lisbon Grade School respectively, believe an active, mutually supportive partnership between our organizations will promote a better education of our young people, support both business and academic objectives, and foster enhanced community relations among all involved.
